Mwen Renmen Tèt Mwen

"Mwen Renmen Tèt Mwen, (Haitian Creole for “I love Myself”) stands as an empowering photo series, dedicated to the transformative journey undertaken by many Haitians to reclaim self-love within the realm of their blackness. In the beginning of this shoot, one of the models proclaimed, "They used to put me down so much because I was this dark, and now, I love myself."

Through juxtaposition, the series artfully intertwines the model's natural beauty, showcased by their radiant complexion, with the ever-evolving landscape. The visual metaphor illustrates the eternal essence of blackness, a timeless and unwavering pride that echoes the spirit of Haiti, the first Black republic.

"Mwen Renmen Tèt Mwen" emerges as a celebration of self-empowerment and a defiant stance against the negative societal narratives that once sought to diminish the value of dark skin. It serves as a poignant tribute to the resilience and beauty that emanates from embracing one's blackness, reclaiming self-love, and cherishing the ancestral legacy of Haiti.
